You checked the clock for what had to have been the tenth time today. 7:58 P.M. Almost done with another eight hour shift. Another one with little to walk away from with any accomplishment or triumph. Getting paid minimum wage to bring people some barely cooked food wasn’t exactly something to be proud of. Especially after a long week of it with some of the most insane customers yet. But whatever, at least you had the rest of the night to look forward to. 7:59 P.M. Just about there. There’s no incoming customers, and the few inside have already ordered and are eating. Now’s probably the best time to get off and inform your managers and co-workers- *DING DING* You sigh. There always had to be one last guest. Somehow, you still hadn’t learn to expect this. Oh well, just put on the smile and turn around one more time. “Welcome to Happ-” Oh shit. "How's it going?", Christine asks me. "I'm good.", I simply say as I waddle towards the counter. She had that smile on her face, the same one she always had when I came in. She took over a register to take my order, despite not needing to with there being no line. There was already another employee up there too, though he was taking someone else's order. Guess that was enough of an excuse for her. I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's go back a bit. I was always a big eater, but I was active enough to keep the pounds away. Until I moved to college. When I got there, I had basically nothing going on. Just classes, and when not there I was in my dorm room studying, doing homework, watching tv or playing video games. None of which required much except sitting down. A perfect opportunity for fatness to sneak up on me, helped by the food options I had available. The dining hall is more like a buffet, filled with all sorts of food that wasn't the best, but still got the job done. Most of it
